Inter wins Coppa Italia – Lautaro Martínez sinks Fiorentina with two goals
Inter are Italian cup champions for the second year in a row.
Lautaro Martínez sank Fiorentina with two goals in eight minutes.
The Argentine has now scored over 100 goals in the Inter shirt.
There was no league title.
But when Inter face Manchester City in the Champions League final on June 10, they still have the chance to win a treble.
It is clear after following up the win in the Super Cup by defeating Fiorentina in tonight’s Coppa Italia final.
Reached new milestone
The big organizer of the victory for Inter was the Argentinian Lautaro Martínez, who scored both of the team’s goals in the 2-1 victory.
However, the Milan club ended up in the dock early on, as Conference League finalists Fiorentina took the lead after just three minutes. The goal was added after Jonathan Ikoné’s cutting pass found its way to the Argentinian Nicolas Gonzalez, who masterfully pushed in 1-0.
The lead lasted just under half an hour – then it was time for Lautaro Martínez to step into the action, when he timed a deep run perfectly and slotted home the equaliser.
The goal marked a new milestone for “El Toro”, as it was his 100th goal in the Inter shirt.
Second straight Cup
Just eight minutes later, he also struck with his 101st goal after a beautiful volley finish.
Fiorentina had several qualified chances to equalise, but Inter’s 38-year-old goalkeeper Samir Handanović did not let any more balls pass him.
The Nerazzurri can thus celebrate the club’s second straight Coppa Italia title.
For Fiorentina, however, the title drought continues. The last time the club lifted a trophy was in 2001, when they won the Coppa Italia.
