“He works without being seen”
TAMMERFORS. It wasn’t just Timothy Liljegren who joined Tre Kronor on Wednesday.
With him also came the military, farmer and mental counselor Otto Casselberg – mainly to give support to the leaders.
– He works without being seen, says national team manager Anders Lundberg.
Three Crowns has a new leadership staff and a new team around the team after Sam Hallam took over as national team captain after Johan Garpenlöv just under a year ago.
This means some changes compared to previous years.
Among other things, they have hired a performance coach, a mental advisor to the coaching staff, who is around the team at the WC in Tampere.
Background in the military
When Timothy Liljegren arrived on Wednesday, Otto Casselberg, 47, came in the same car to the player hotel.
Casselberg has a background in the armed forces and in recent years has worked both on an individual level as an advisor to, among others, goalkeepers Viktor Andrén and Magnus Hellberg, as well as being involved as a mental coach around Karlskrona HK and Växjö Lakers. He was part of Växjö’s golden journey in 2018 when they crushed Skellefteå in the final with a goal difference of 20-1.
In addition, he owns an agricultural property with a large outbuilding of 500 square meters, a pasture of 17 hectares or 34 football pitches to give the surface a better comprehensibility.
“The brain is a muscle”
In an interview with Sportbladet before the Olympics in Beijing last year, Magnus Hellberg talked about the help he received from Casselberg.
– Physics, technique and diet are one thing, but the mental part is incredibly important. The brain is also like a muscle that can be trained. It’s been a bit taboo to talk about before, but it’s something I want to talk about. It is important to dare to talk about how you think and feel, said the goalkeeper at the time.
Tre Kronor does not want and is not allowed to comment on Otto Casselberg’s role, the adviser has asked Tre Kronor to do so, and he himself does not agree to be interviewed.
