Real Madrid’s nice gesture after the racist scandal against Vinicius Junior | La Liga
There has been a storm in Spanish football in recent days.
The reason is the racism that Real Madrid’s Brazilian star Vinicius Junior had to endure in the weekend’s match away to Valencia.
“It wasn’t the first time, not the second or third. Racism is normal in La Liga. The competition thinks it’s normal, so does the federation and the opponents encourage it. I’m sorry“, wrote the brass on Twitter after the match.
Ahead of tonight’s Madrid derby against Rayo Vallecano, the Real players showed their support for their teammate. Before kick-off, the team lined up on the field, all wearing a shirt with Vinicius Junior’s name on the back.
Several people arrested
The scandalous scenes in Valencia have been condemned by the entire football world. Among other things, the world-famous Jesus statue in Vinicius Junior’s hometown of Rio de Janeiro was extinguished on Monday evening in a gesture of solidarity for the Real star.
Earlier on Wednesday announced Valencia that Spanish police have identified three people who were guilty of the racist abuse, and these have now been banned for life from Valencia’s matches. Meanwhile, four people have been arrested on suspicion of hanging a doll representing Vinicius Junior from a bridge in Madrid earlier this year.
The Spanish Football Federation has announced that Valencia will be forced to close its heel section for the next five matches.
