Club icon and former Guldbollen winner Jan Olsson has passed away, the club announces on its website.

“We remember the defender/midfielder with warm feelings,” writes Gais.

Jan “Janne” Olsson came to Gay 1965 and spent several successful seasons in the Gothenburg club.

In 1969 he left for two seasons in German Stuttgart where he played 64 games and scored 20 goals before returning home to Gais.

With the WC

Jan Olsson also represented the Swedish national team on 22 occasions and was in the World Cup in Mexico in 1970. In the same year, he was also awarded the Golden Ball as player of the year in Sweden.

Jan Olsson was 79 years old. Gais announces on his website that he will be honored before the home game against Jönköping Södra on Saturday.
