Jan Olsson was in the Swedish World Cup squad for Mexico in 1970 and won the Ballon d’Or the same year. In total, he played 22 games in the blue-yellow shirt.

In Sweden he is mainly linked to Gais, although he also belonged to rival Örgryte towards the end of his career. In Gais, he broke through before the move went to Germany and more specifically to Stuttgart.

Honored in connection with the match

Gais announces on his website that Olsson has died, at the age of 79.

“Gaisaren Jan “Janne” Olsson has passed away, and we remember the defender/midfielder with warm feelings,” writes the club.

Gais will honor Olsson before Saturday’s home game against Jönköping Södra.
