Sirius still winless – Halmstad turned around and won

0

Sirius still has zero wins in this year’s Allsvenska.

Against Halmstad, the team lost its lead and lost 2-1.

– Missing that last bit, says Sirius back Dennis Widgren.

Sirius has had a tough start to this year’s edition of the Allsvenskan. After nine rounds, the team sits below the line and still hasn’t taken a three-pointer.

And against Halmstad, the winless streak continued.

Lost lead

The home side took the lead after 16 minutes of the first half when Dennis Widgren fired a shot from outside the penalty area that found its way in. The goal was the winger’s first of the season.

– It’s not every day that person finds their way in. There are small margins, says Widgren in Discovery.

But the away team would respond just over a quarter of an hour later when Viktor Granath equalised, and in the second half Halmstad would also go ahead to make it 2-1 and score all three points through Erik Ahlstrand.

Five crosses in nine games

The result means that Sirius still hasn’t won a game this season and is in 15th place in the table. The team has five crosses and four losses in the opening nine rounds.

The last time a team hadn’t won a match after nine rounds was in 2017, when AFC Eskilstuna opened their Allsvenskan season with 15 straight matches without a win. But the Uppsala team is not alone in not having won yet this season. Table juggernaut Varberg hasn’t taken his first three-pointer yet either.

Things look brighter for Halmstad. Sunday’s three-pointer moves the team up to ninth place in the table.
