Tre Kronor had no major concerns in cleaning up Hungary in the fourth match of the group stage.
Already after 90 seconds, Oscar Lindberg opened the scoring and after that Sweden never let go of the game.
Jacob de la Rose extended, Hungary reduced shortly after, but then Timothy Liljegren took hold of the proceedings when he beautifully assisted Dennis Everberg to make it 3-1. A Rögle collaboration that was successful for Sweden.
Overrun in the second period
Liljegren registered another assist in the second period when he was involved in the preparatory work for 5-1 which Jonatan Berggren finished in the best way. Before that, André Petersson had scored 4-1 in the power play.
The middle period was, overall, a blue-yellow story. Sweden won the shootout with a crushing 13-0.
Tre Kronor continued on the beaten path in the third period and ended the match with the crushing numbers 7-1. Hungary also did not shoot a shot on goal during two periods, so Jesper Wallstedt was in goal for more than 40 minutes without feeling the puck. The shot statistics in the third were 17-0 in Sweden’s favor.
– We start a little slowly. In others, we do what we have to and push them down in the attacking zone. From there we have the whole match. A good passer, says Jonatan Berggren.
“It’s fun to be up and running”
Tre Kronor now has four straight wins in the hockey World Cup. The team is second in Group A, one point behind the USA.
– I think we saw a game where we were a little careless with the puck. When we were Hungary could do. They play with energy, speed and fan. We tightened up in period three, says national team captain Sam Hallam.
What do you say about Timothy Liljegren’s debut?
– Great. We who have seen have a lot and know what he has. The pass he made in the first period, it shows part of what he has in him. He moves well on the ice and will make us a better hockey team.
Liljegren himself enjoyed making his WC debut.
– I think the team played well today. It’s fun to be up and running, he says.
The Toronto player formed a back pair together with teammate Rasmus Sandin.
-– It was fun to play together again. We have played together for several seasons in the NHL. It’s in the spinal cord.
