USA undefeated in Hockey World Cup – defeated Denmark

For a long time, Denmark looked like it would be able to score a sizzling point against the USA.

But the USA stood on the podium and decided in the third period.

The 3-0 victory means that they are still undefeated and top Tre Kronor’s group.

Favorite tipped USA had a tough time against Denmark in the fifth game of the World Cup group stage. Despite the fact that Danish first goalie Frederik Dichow had to leave after a blow to the head in the first period, they could not get the puck into the goal.

Reserve goalkeeper George Sörensen played great and the Danish team were far from harmless.

At the beginning of the third period, Denmark had several golden opportunities to take the lead in the until then goalless match.

Multiple powerplay modes

Among other things, Denmark had a five-on-three game for around a minute. Then they failed to get the puck into the net. A few minutes later, they got another chance in the power play and went for it again.

– They don’t take the chance and opportunity that they themselves create, says SVT’s expert Jonas Andersson in the broadcast.

Denmark needed a goal there because when the USA got a chance on the power play soon after, 19-year-old Cutter Gauthier made it 1-0 with ten minutes left to play.

The USA eventually won 3–0 after Alex Tuch added with 4.30 remaining and Rocco Grimaldi established the final score in an empty net.

The USA is thus still undefeated after full time and tops Three Kronors group of 15 points.

The USA broke the deadlock against Denmark first with a few minutes left.
