Vegas closes in on Stanley Cup finals: ‘Sat way in’
LAS VEGAS. The Golden Knights won another jackpot at home in Las Vegas on Sunday.
Although the Dallas Stars played better, they won again in sudden death and are now just two wins away from the Stanley Cup Final.
– It was a long way in, but we continued to wear them down and finally got paid, says William Karlsson to Sportbladet after the 3-2 victory.
Yes, even the second round in between Vegas Golden Knights and the Dallas Stars went to overtime, meaning that for the first time in history, all four of the season’s opening conference finals have been decided that way.
In the Sunday matinee at T-Mobile Arena – the game started at the impossible Vegas time of 12:00! – however, it looked for a long time that the Stars would tie the Western series.
They were the better team, making sure the Knights hardly had any chances at all and had a 2-1 lead with two and a half minutes remaining.
But then Jack Eichel spread a masterful backhand sandwich from behind the box to Jonathan Marchessault in front of it and moments later it was level.
– Mm, that fit can be considered quite decent, smiles William Karlsson when we meet him afterwards.
– It was really nice and Marchessault rarely misses from that position.

Then the overtime only lasted a minute before Chandler Stephenson grabbed a rebound and scored to make it 3-2.
– It’s all about winning, it matters less how it looks, continues “Wild Bill”.
– This time it was deep, Dallas is very good at playing with a lead, but we kept wearing them down and finally got paid for it. It feels like a really nice scalp to take.
It’s also typical of Vegas to come back from underdogs. Almost 80 percent of the games they won in this year’s playoffs have happened in just that way.

The hope is that he and his teammates, now up 2-0 in the series, will take another step toward the Stanley Cup Finals over the next two games in Texas.
– It will be tough to go to Dallas and beat them there, but we stick to the one-game-at-a-time mentality and will try to win the next one. Hopefully we can make a better match than today.
